In case you haven’t been paying attention, our voting rights are under attack in America. There’s a movement underway that shows a large number of Republican lawmakers are attempting to dismantle Voting Rights for Americans, which have been in place since the 1960s. It seems that if Republican lawmakers have their way, poor people, African Americans, and other people of color might lose their right to vote. That would be insane if that is allowed to happen.
Tuesday, January 18, 2022, was supposed to be the day when Senate Democratic leaders brought the issue to the floor, even if it ended in failure for the cause.
The debate kicked off as planned, with Democrats using a loophole in the 60-vote rule to begin considering the Freedom to Vote Act and the John Lewis Voting Rights Advancement Act. But there is no such loophole to end debate and proceed to a final vote unless Democrats change the rules.
