Reading Time: 2 minutes

The Monday morning after Christmas, the Chester Chaplains Corps gathered at the Police Administration Building to swear in new members to their ranks.

With Police Commissioner, Steven Gretsky; Deputy Commissioner, Katrina Blackwell; Senior Chaplain, Reverend Dr. Lisa Dennis; Chaplains Reverend Hilda Campbell, Reverend Ronald Hughes, Reverend William “Rocky” Brown, Chaplain Brother Shakur Ali and family members looking on, Nathan Jacobs, Minister Tamika Gibson, and Norman Brown took the oath of office, administered by Mayor Thaddeus Kirkland. Standing in proxy for Chaplain Rosetta Carter, Chaplain Reverend Hilda Campbell took the oath of office. “We need people like Rosetta Carter, who volunteer their time. This is not a paid position. Things would be happening, and Ms. Carter would just show up, ready to help,” stated Dennis The Chaplains acknowledged the dedicated support of the mayor and the extraordinary assistance of the police commissioner in the performance of their duties. “We would not be able to get some of the things that we’ve accomplished done if not for our mayor and our very unique Police Commissioner,” said Senior Chaplain, Reverend Dr. Lisa Dennis.

Every year the Police Commissioner is called on to nominate two officers for “Merit Awards,” recognizing outstanding work within the community. This year’s recipients are Officer Adam Youseef and Officer Terrance Broaddus. Both officers have contributed greatly to the Chester Police Department and connected with the community in a compassionate, respectful manner, paving the way for a more trusting relationship with the residents in the neighborhoods. “It’s an honor and a privilege to serve here. I stay because I’m called to be here,” stated Officer Broaddus. Officer Youssef said, “I’m grateful to serve this community, and I do so with pride.” FOP Representative Detective Michael Maher was present for the presentation of Merit Awards.
