Things we need to Pay Attention to between now and until…

Reading Time: 5 minutes

We have to keep our eyes peeled towards our Nation’s Capitol this weekend, Saturday to be exact. That’s the date when a group of protestors, many believed to be part of Donald Trump’s Make America Great Again (MEGA) group, just might try to come armed and ready to get rowdy, raucous, rude, and ugly. Kind of like what went down on January 6, 2021.

Law enforcement officials in Washington D.C. are preparing for possible trouble when this right-wing rally unfolds Saturday, September 18th. According to numerous news reports, law enforcement officials are learning of all kinds of violent rhetoric that lends itself to negative, domestic terrorism, the way I see it. There’s been a major increase in online chatter about the September 18th event. Meanwhile, counterprotests are being planned for the same day, according to an internal Capitol Police memo, that was reported on and reviewed by CNN.

The rally has been dubbed, “Justice for J6” rally — which aims to support insurrectionists charged in the Capitol riot.

Some of these right-wing demonstrators who will participate are said to be looking at September 18 as a “Justice for Ashli Babbitt” Rally. She was the protestor on January 6th, who was killed by a Capitol Hill Police Officer, as he did his job, trying to protect the Capitol building.

Pay attention to what happens in Washington, D.C. this weekend.

The ongoing pandemic across the world. People, readers of the SCOOP USA newspaper, please pay attention to what’s happening with this coronavirus pandemic. It is not over, and everyone with good sense needs to still mask up when you are out in public. Period! No debate. No argument.

Also, other than people who honestly have underlying health issues and have been advised by their medical doctors not to get the covid vaccine, you should really get the covid-19 vaccine. I am convinced that the only way we can beat this thing is to get as many people vaccinated against the virus as possible. Back in the day when we were kids (and I was a child of the 1960s), no questioned asked, no debates had, every child who attended public schools in America, Catholic schools too, for that matter, had to be immunized or they couldn’t start school.

Some of the very same people I know, who enjoy traveling around the world, particularly to various parts of Africa, must have certain immunization shots before you travel. I’ve traveled to Africa myself, and I know what I’m talking about. It’s very odd to me that when people want to do something for entertainment or fun, it’s ok to stick your arm out and get vaccinated against whatever the rule book says you need. But when it comes to saving your life and the lives of loved ones, while you’re just living your normal life, not traveling, not on vacation, there’s gotta be an uproar against it.

“The government might be trying to plant something in us when they give us the vaccine.” I’m just not getting it because I don’t need it. I’m very careful when I’m around other people.” “I’m healthy as a horse, and I ain’t letting anyone stick a needle in my arm, and I don’t know what is in it.”

Those are the kinds of answers I keep hearing over and over again, from a handful of friends and even a few family members of mine, who refuse to get vaccinated. That’s what I’m hearing when I watch television news and read newspapers.

Then I wonder to myself, these same people who say they’ll “never get vaccinated,” do they question all the ingredients in beer if they drink beer? Do they question all the ingredients in every single item they order from a fast-food restaurant? When you pour some Pepsi-Cola on a dirty car battery with corrosion on it, did you know that Pepsi will start to clean that battery off as if it were brand new? Wonder what all is in Pepsi Soda? We don’t question it. We just drink it. I’m not trying to pick on Pepsi Cola, the company today. I’m just saying, we did this as a science experiment years ago, and this really happens.

You get my point. So many of us never question what we’re putting into our bodies. We just do it. Now all of a sudden, we want to be back-room scientists and need a thousand questions answered before we can protect ourselves.

The statistics being shown on the news daily about the numbers of people in hospitals across American with Covid right now are not “made up” numbers. These numbers are real. The majority of the people in hospitals right now, in this country, who are diagnosed with Covid, in intensive care, are folk who refused to take the immunization against the virus. I just don’t know what else can be said, except get the covid-19 vaccination. I am fully vaccinated to be very clear.

We need to keep paying attention to what’s happening with renters who because of no fault of their own, have not been able to keep up with their rent since the pandemic began. Now that the U.S. Supreme Court says Landlords don’t have to abide by moratoriums to protect renters any longer, people are getting put out of their homes. Many renters are becoming homeless. Everyone doesn’t have family or friends to turn to in times of trouble.

Look at it like this, renters today, people with mortgages they can’t pay, by the end of 2021. Pay attention. By the end of this year, people who have mortgages they haven’t been able to keep up with, for the same reason as many renters, will start getting foreclosure notifications from their lenders.

Politics. Watch and watch closely as political rivals, foes, and friends start turning things up for the next PA Gubernatorial election and the next Presidential election. The next PA governor’s race is in 2022. The next Presidential race is in 2024. The candidates are lining up already. I recognize that some people just don’t like politics. I say get over it. If you are an American citizen, age 18 or older you need to participate in the political process. You start by registering to vote., You learn about the various candidate running in each election, and on Election Day, you vote. In my mind, voting is a no-brainer. Do it!

There’s a General Election taking place in PA on Tuesday, November 2, 2021. There have been so many crises going on, who has time to think about an election right? We have to find the time to think about elections. Pay attention. Watch the Republicans, particularly at the state level, in Harrisburg. Many of them are callous and mean as they come. They demonstrate that they don’t think about poor people or people in crisis. So we must be politically engaged. The only way we can change this is we have to get good political candidates, support them while they are running for office, vote them in and stay on their butts once they “arrive” so they never forget from whence they’ve come.

Finally, there’s the violence pandemic, and it too must stop. Wish somebody could come up with a vaccine against that. We and I say we because it’s got to be “we” that address violence in our cities. We cannot just depend on law enforcement to fix the violence problem. It’s going to take all of us. When there are community meetings in your neighborhood, even the virtual ones while the pandemic continues, plug into those meetings. Know what’s happening in your hood. And if you are healthy and able-bodied, and can volunteer to work with our youth after school, or on weekends, even just on your block where you live, it doesn’t have to be brain surgery, do it.

Work with our youth. Show positivity and community building with our youth. I think that’s the seed to work with.

We have to start somewhere, and I think starting with our youth can go a long way toward eradicating the pandemic of violence.
