Reading Time: 2 minutes

PHILADELPHIA, November 18, 2024 – In a remarkable show of community support, SELF Inc. announced that its inaugural SELF In The City Gala held on November 16, 2024, exceeded its fundraising goal to support its ongoing initiatives to solve homelessness in our community.

The gala themed “SELF In The City” welcomed over 300 attendees at the elegant Hilton Philadelphia-City Avenue. Guests enjoyed a night filled with inspiring stories, exceptional honorees, and the chance to bid on exclusive items in the silent auction.

Highlights included moving speeches by honorees Philadelphia Mayor Cherelle Parker (Trailblazer Award) and former mayor the Rev. Dr. W. Wilson Goode Sr. (Legacy Award), which captivated attendees. Other honorees included: William Way LGBT Community Center Executive Director Christopher Bartlett (Michael Hinson Equity Award), Philadelphia Building Trades Council Assistant Business Manager Butch Bennett (Community Change Award), Always Best Care of Philadelphia and Delaware owner Bryant Greene (Heart of the City) and youth homelessness activist Jayda Alexander (Horizons Youth Award).

“I am overwhelmed by the generosity of our community,” said SELF Inc. CEO Dr. Shirlana Dash. “Every ticket sold, every auction item bid on, and every dollar donated will go directly toward our programs that provide shelter, job training, and essential services to the unhoused. Thank you to everyone who played a part in this success.”

The spirit of the evening also spurred generous bids through the special “Fund-a-Need” segment, allowing attendees to directly support specific SELF Inc. programs.

SELF Inc. would like to extend its heartfelt gratitude to all sponsors, donors, volunteers, and attendees for their unwavering support.
