The majority of public comments were in support of Bill 214075, highlighting the need for the prioritization of flex funding for SEPTA.
Nico Meyering, MPA, Chair of the Mayor’s Commission on People With Disabilities and Vice President of the nonprofit Young Involved Philadelphia, said, “I, like many others, rely on Septa to navigate my daily life. As a younger disabled professional, I go from my home in Queen Village to my job in Center City. I use Septa to visit museums, see friends, make it to meetings, and most importantly to doctor visits. Moreover, disabled people like me use Septa to fully engage in this incredible city. That’s why I’m here to encourage Governor Shapiro to use that flex funding. It’s not just about transit; it’s about creating a safer, more accessible Philadelphia for everyone. Septa is a lifeline for young, disabled Philadelphians like me. It’s more than a bus or a train; it’s independence.”
