I wanted to end this series about people’s feelings, comments, and concerns regarding the election with a positive vibe because no matter what the outcome, we will have a new leader, but each of us will have to return to our jobs, home, families, neighborhoods, and all the other mundane aspects of everyday life. All the vitriol, divisiveness, bitterness, and misunderstood hurt feelings of the past months will fade away as folks return to the business of everyday life.
Will we as a nation have learned anything from this tumultuous period How will we move forward as a nation? One thought is stuck in my mind as I contemplate tomorrow, “As the president goes, so goes the nation.”
Well, fellow citizens, the day has finally arrived. It’s November 5, 2024, Election Day in the USA, and every eligible voter has cast a ballot, has a plan to cast a ballot, will cast a ballot, and then some choose not to engage in this civic discourse. Whatever the outcome, know that the nation is on the precipice of change, and what that change will look like is anyone’s guess at this point.
“Knowing is not enough; we must apply.
Willing is not enough; we must do.”
Johann Wolfgang von Goethe
Change should ideally begin in the conversations that we, as American citizens, have with one another (especially our political leaders). Disagreements are a part of living, but the way we disagree is important…Our cruelty towards each other in person and on social media platforms (they’re honestly not going to regulate hateful or damaging speech because it interferes with the. Almighty bottom line…) in the news media and every other form of communication.
The candidates have spared no expense, literally or figuratively, when dispensing their versions of truth to the voters, and rightfully so (everyone has an opinion). However, everyone’s truth is different, as everyone’s perspective is different. I believe honesty is the best policy, but I also believe, honesty without compassion is cruelty.
Hopefully, when the noise and rhetoric of the 2024 election cycle fade away, society will have learned some lessons, can embrace some solitude, and gain a much deeper appreciation for our fellow citizens and what they have to offer. At the very least, the polarization of 2024’s election cycle should increase one’s introspection, making one more self-aware, understanding, and empathetic to our fellow humans.
After all, we’re human, and no human being is infallible… everyone has an opinion, a voice, a choice, and a right to that opinion, a right for our voice to be heard and a choice in the decisions we make.
One thing is for sure, and two for certain–there will be an election, and there’s going to be a winner. It only remains to be seen whether the American people will be singing a chorus of “I Am Woman” or a chorus of “Make America Great Again.” Either way, America needs to move on from the vitriol, divisiveness, hatred, and partisanship that has plagued us for far too long and begin the process of mending fences so our nation can become whole again.
VOTE AMERICA VOTE! You owe it to yourself and all the generations to come.
“What you do today can improve
all your tomorrows.” Ralph Marston
