Making an Impact One Day At A Time

Reading Time: 3 minutes

One Day At A Time is hosting their 41st Annual Candlelight Vigil Anniversary Celebration for Co-Founder Margaret ‘Mom’ Wells on June 26th at The MET in Philadelphia from 2pm to 8pm with Headliner Dru Hill

Giving someone a compliment and not knowing how much of an impact that may make on them only takes seconds.
Now think of how much of an impact you would have on that person if you offered them food, a roof over their head, a job, and a means to recover their sense of self.
Since 1983, The Wells family has opened their doors and hearts to a sea of individuals in need of guidance and a leg up on life, literally giving up their own personal beds and space inside their family home when One Day At A Time (ODAAT) began.
Unfortunately, Co-Founders Reverend Henry T Wells and Margaret ‘Mom’ Wells have since passed away from this life. However, their son Mel Wells has continued their family legacy and celebrates it with the Philadelphia community through an annual event.
One Day at a Time is a non-profit organization that works consistently to provide services to those suffering from addiction. ODAAT President Mel Wells stated, “For decades, we’ve had a candlelight vigil to remember those who passed away due to HIV/AIDS and gun violence. In honor of this tradition, we are continuing the legacy of my mother ‘Mom’ Wells, who was the guiding light in helping people fight their addictions and pursue the road to recovery. We invite the community to be a part of this free celebration in remembrance of what Philly can be if we keep loving each other and pursuing peace in the streets.”
The annual community concert and resource fair brings together families, loved ones, neighbors, and friends to remember those they’ve lost and celebrate life in a fun-filled, safe environment.
The resources that ODAAT offers provide opportunities to individuals who are in recovery from addiction, former incarcerated individuals, victims of violence, and to individuals and who are homeless. Those resources include food, housing, job opportunities, therapy, and so much more via collaborative efforts between ODAAT and other organizations and resources through the City of Philadelphia.
The 41st Annual Candlelight Vigil Anniversary Celebration for Co-Founder Margaret ‘Mom’ Wells will include vendors, free food, a resource fair, an award ceremony, panel discussions, and community concerts with special guests and performers featuring Philly’s favorites Wallo and Gillie, and headliner Dru Hill at The Met in Philadelphia.
As part of their mission and initiative, there will be tables available offering free HIV/STD testing, employment opportunities, and more during the event!
Now more than ever, we are proud to stand with Mayor Cherelle Parker under the One Philly, A City United anthem as we celebrate this event themed, ‘One Love, One Philly.’
“Nothing is impossible. One Day At A Time is a culture that lives on no excuses, no blame game, because we believe that nothing is impossible,” quoted by President Mel Wells, referring to a mantra that his father and Founder, Rev. Henry T Wells, lived by.
And with that, ODAAT’s President Mel Wells gave Vizion an Inside Scoop exclusive, announcing that One Day At A Time is offering a new program for 40 individuals who have experienced violence. The new initiative will offer financial assistance up to $1,500, along with providing those individuals with every opportunity that ODAAT offers. You are encouraged to apply by sending them a direct message through their social media sites on Instagram at @originalODAAT or @president.odaat.
