The Mayor’s Clean and Green Cabinet has been unveiled

Reading Time: 2 minutes

Mayor Cherelle Parker announced who will sit on her newly formed Clean and Green Cabinet on Friday, May 17, 2024, at the Mayor’s Reception Room at City Hall.

Some 38 citizens from various walks of life have been selected; amongst them, for full transparency’s sake, is yours truly, Thera Martin. I am honored for the opportunity to serve our city and to serve our Mayor.

Some may wonder: What is the Clean and Green Cabinet, and what will they do?

Mayor Parker stated, “The Clean and Green Cabinet has been created to help organize government, community, and business collaboratively, to reduce waste, increase recycling, and continue to work toward a more sustainable future–all with an eye toward environmental justice for underserved and under-resourced communities.”

Under Mayor Parker’s leadership, our city is rallying together to confront the challenges of litter, illegal dumping, and graffiti head-on with a comprehensive strategy that combines the strengths of our city for a cleaner, sustainable future.

Carlton Williams, Director of the Office of Clean and Green, commented,” As stated in Mayor Parker’s Action Plan, the Clean and Green Cabinet has been convened to organize government agencies, businesses, community partners, and other stakeholders around a comprehensive and data-driven action plan to reduce the generation of waste, increase rates of recycling and tackle litter and illegal dumping along with other quality of life issues.”

Williams added, “Each member has been selected to join the Clean and Green Cabinet because of their wealth of knowledge and expertise as it relates to litter, sustainability, and greening. As Cabinet members, they will help to organize to reduce waste, increase recycling, and continue to work toward a more sustainable future–all with an eye toward environmental justice for underserved and under-resourced communities. The Clean and Green Cabinet is essential to the Mayor’s vision to make Philadelphia the safest, cleanest, greenest big city in the nation, with economic opportunities for all.

The Mayor’s plan is to have the Clean and Green Cabinet assist with outlining viable and strategic solutions-based approaches to address issues as everyone works together as One Philly, a united city, to confront the challenges that burden our communities and make Philadelphia one of the cleanest cities in the nation with a renewed sense of pride and safety.

I won’t list all 38 members of the Clean and Green Cabinet. I will share some of the names just to give our SCOOP readers a sense of some of the people who make up this new cabinet.

The members include Ken Anderson, Vice President of Civic Affairs, Philadelphia Chamber of Commerce; Bridget Collins-Greenwald, Commissioner, City of Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspections, Quality of Life Division; Tom Conway, Deputy Managing Director Community Life Improvement Program; Hassan Freeman, Director of the Mayor’s Office of Neighborhood and Community Engagement; Adam Geer, Chief Public Safety Director, City of Philadelphia; Kristen Del Rossi, City of Philadelphia Streets Commissioner; Jane Golden, Executive Director, Mural Arts of Philadelphia; Richard Lazer, Executive Director Philadelphia Parking Authority; Alba Martinez, Director, City of Philadelphia Commerce Department; Myesha S.
