Philadelphia City Council May 9, 2024
Last week’s Council Meeting focused on Philadelphia’s youth… how to engage them, and the resources available. There were other matters that were addressed; however, the focus on the youth population of our city was what stood out. The majority of the Citations and resolutions were dedicated to children, youth, and causes that directly or indirectly affect that demographic.

Councilmember Mike Driscoll and Jim Harrity Presented a Citation Recognizing the young men and women of Abraham Lincoln High School who worked the polls on election day.
As he presented the Citation, Driscoll said, “These students rose to the occasion participating in our democracy and fulfilling their obligations for civic duty, and they did so without reservation. They did so with enthusiasm, and the message to these young men and women is that you are the future of the City of Philadelphia, our nation, and you need to take that responsibility seriously. By showing up early that morning and studying before you got there, you really rose to the occasion.”
“It’s very important that people get involved in the electoral process, and I’m just glad to see so many young people work so enthusiastically for that long day. I know they got a lot longer day than school, so we’re just going to celebrate the students and staff of Abraham Lincoln High School for their service in the 2024 election,” said Harrity.
Two teachers, 35 Abraham Lincoln High School students, and 3 American sign language translators worked hard to keep the polls open.
