BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) is set to honor the outstanding songwriters and publishers in the Gospel genre at the 2024 BMI Trailblazers of Gospel Music Awards, scheduled for March 28th at Flourish Atlanta. Adding a new chapter to the ceremony, Jonathan McReynolds will receive the inaugural BMI Champion Award in acknowledgment of his exceptional artistry and contributions to Gospel music, and esteemed Gospel recording artist and globally recognized evangelist Dorinda Clark-Cole will be bestowed with the highest distinction of Trailblazer of Gospel for her remarkable career spanning more than five decades and her unmatched influence on the genre and beyond.
The event, a private affair, will be overseen by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative, Atlanta, Catherine Brewton. Catherine Brewton expressed enthusiasm, stating, “We’re thrilled to celebrate the BMI family of songwriters and publishers for their invaluable contributions to Gospel music and the Gospel community. Dorinda Clark-Cole epitomizes a trailblazer in Gospel music, notably for her pioneering role with The Clark Sisters, whose jazz-infused sound brought a distinctive brilliance to the genre. It’s an honor to recognize her enduring impact through music and evangelism.
Additionally, we’re recognizing Jonathan McReynolds, whose soul-stirring music resonates deeply, earning him the title of BMI Champion. We eagerly anticipate an afternoon of faith, camaraderie, and exceptional music as we celebrate our honorees and unite the community.”
Dorinda Clark-Cole hailed as the “Rose of Gospel Music,” boasts a multifaceted career as an award-winning singer/songwriter, talk show host, and evangelist. Raised in Detroit, she is celebrated as a member of The Clark Sisters, renowned for chart-topping hits like “Blessed & Highly Favored,” “You Brought The Sunshine,” and “Hallelujah.” Over her dynamic career, Clark-Cole has amassed numerous accolades, including two GRAMMY Awards, two Dove Awards, three BMI Awards, and 13 Stellar Gospel Music Awards.
Jonathan McReynolds, hailing from Chicago, cultivated his musical passion in the church from a young age, and continues to spread the Gospel globally through his inspiring song ministry. With six albums to his credit, including the chart-topping “Make Room” and “People,” McReynolds has earned eight Stellar Awards and multiple GRAMMY nominations. His latest release, “My Truth,” garnered critical acclaim and accolades, including a Dove Award and a GRAMMY nomination. Apart from his musical endeavors, McReynolds holds a Master of Arts in Biblical Studies from Moody Theological Seminary and founded Elihu Nation, a nonprofit organization providing scholarships to youth nationwide.
