Set for release on April 18, 2025, “Michael” is produced by GK Films’ Graham King, directed by Antoine Fuqua, and starring Jaafar Jackson– Universal Pictures International (UPI) announces the eagerly awaited start of production on Michael–the Michael Jackson biopic, which will begin Principal Photography on January 22, 2024. Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, will be introduced to worldwide audiences in the starring role of the beloved musical icon.
Directed by Antoine Fuqua (Training Day, The Equalizer films) and produced by Oscar® winner Graham King (Bohemian Rhapsody, The Aviator, The Departed), they will bring magic from the script by three-time Oscar® nominee John Logan. This visionary filmmaking collaboration is Oscar®-winning Director of Photography Dion Beebe, Costume Designer Marci Rodgers, and Choreographers Rich + Tone.

Jaafar is an American singer, dancer, and actor. He appeared in music videos and was featured in The Jacksons: Next Generation. He released his debut single “Got Me Singing,” in 2019.
Born in Los Angeles on July 25, 1996. His father is Jermaine Jackson of the Jackson family, and his mother is Alejandra Genevieve Oaziaza. He started singing and dancing at the age of 12; he also aspired to become a professional golf player.
Jackson has covered songs by Sam Cooke and Marvin Gaye. In 2019, he released his first single, “Got Me Singing.” He appeared in Tito Jackson’s music video, “Love One Another,” in 2021.
After a two-year casting process, Jackson was cast in the lead role of his uncle. It is reported that Michael’s mother, Katherine Jackson, was quoted as approving of the casting, saying he “embodies” her son. Jaafar himself wrote on his personal Instagram account that he was “humbled and honored” to be cast in the role.
Principal photography began on the film on November 27, 2023, in Los Angeles, California.
