Short Film “Death Saved My Life” by LaCinda Trotter Selected by Film Freeway

Reading Time: 3 minutes

Congratulations to Filmmaker LaCinda Trotter. She is one of the winners to have their short film “Death Saved My Life” viewed at the Film Freeway Festival. In a remarkably candid Facebook Live, LaCinda announced that her film won. She also shared her story that another filmmaker borrowed the name of her film for their project. Although not happy about the situation, LaCinda is glad that Hollywood knows her name.

“Death Saved My Life” is directed by Anthony Reed, Jr., and Assistant Director is Tyra Coleman. The short film is heartfelt and deals with a subject matter that isn’t highlighted often. “Death Saved My Life” follows Chris, a pre-teen boy who often feels that he’s unloved by his family and is constantly bullied by his classmates in school. Chris feels alone while dealing with the pain, and he makes a shocking decision that will leave you heartbroken.

LaCinda is proof that it’s essential to believe in your project and keep going even when others say no. She initially submitted her film to the Philadelphia Film Festival. It didn’t receive the reviews she was expecting, so she was very hesitant to submit “Death Saved My Life” to Film Freeway.

Shelly Shell: Who encouraged you to submit the film?

LaCinda Trotter: After the disappointment of the negative reviews from the Philadelphia Film Festival, I didn’t want to submit the film. However, several people including, Monica Logan from 44Blue and Jorge Washington from De’Unique TV. They encouraged me to submit my film.

Shelly Shell: What’s next for the Film?

LaCinda Trotter: The team and I will be presented with an award at the Black Excellence Festival on June 18, 2021. Death Saved My Life will be viewed by over 10K people at the Festival.

Shelly Shell: How can we watch the film?

LaCinda Trotter: You can find the film on YouTube, and streamed by Who?Mag Multimedia on Roku, Apple TV, and it’s been recently picked up by Jermaine Quick for streaming on Melanated Vision Programming also on Roku, Apple TV, and Fire TV.
