Making the move through Economic Empowerment

Reading Time: 2 minutes

December 9, 2023– WURD’s Empowerment Experience Free Signature Holiday Event pre-registered 300+ WURD listeners and friends!

izing of the cultural dynamics of Kwanzaa Principal, Ujamaa – Cooperative Economics and stemming from a collaboration and coming together of Black and Brown Artisans, Creators, Merchants, Businesses, and Agencies–both Public and Governmental, we engulfed upon a Spectacular Shopping and Marketplace Experience to embrace and embold a Holiday Setting Second to Nothing!

Talking about “Setting a Place on Fire, Fueling a Barn-Fire of Momentous Proportion,” Sister Andrea Lawful Sanders and Tonya Pendleton were so hot and on fire — you dared not try or even attempt to put their fire out! The camaraderie, joy, excitement, thrills, aspirations, and accomplishments seemed to be very commonplace from my estimation!

All I can say is that ENON Tabernacle Baptist Church was off the chain, and it wasn’t Sunday, and our stupendous extraordinaire Dr. Preacher, Pastor Alyn E. Waller, was not preaching, and the place was packed. The number of people expected was quadruple, quintuple from what was the number believed to attend.

Yes, the Empowering Experiences were seen in every corner of the building. People were bargaining, negotiating, buying, selling, sharing, and learning from one- on-one and by group interactions. There were all types of merchandise and services, including gas, electricity, and water. The music flowed, networking flourished, connections seemed to be continuously ongoing, and the Joy/Love/Peace/Cherishing moments for me were the highlights of the “Day!”

People were taking pictures, and the laughing and joking made this event something more than empowering! I will say wholeheartedly and without any hesitation or reservation that the event was successful, insightful, unique, and different. “The Mission was Accomplished!”

In closing, I want to share one of my many interactions! Our Sister, the Register of Wills, Tracy Gordon, had an Information table. She was distributing housing materials, smiling, sharing, engaging, and truly going through the day with a great attitude; even though she was betrayed by this city’s democratic process. Not supporting her for re-election (in terms of) what she did for our community was deplorable. She warranted and deserved another opportunity to be supported.

Now, let’s talk about Dollars in the Community! It was estimated that $1.6 trillion dollars went through the Black Community in 10 months in 2022, and we still have not developed the wherewithal to make it more impactful and beneficial for our positive growth and economic expansion! If we are to do better, we must (at all costs) monitor our spending habits and behaviors! Economic Empowerment is a Must! My day ended by establishing a new collaboration between Brother S. Muhammad and His Son to put forth a new empowering initiative! I took time and took advantage of the day.

Yours pushing the envelope, Brother Tyrone L. Reed
