New sitcoms full of laughs

Reading Time: 2 minutes

If you haven’t seen Tyler Perry’s hit series’ “Assisted Living,” you might want to check it out. New episodes of season two began last week Tuesday, on BET and BET Her. Executively Produced by Tyler Perry, “House of Payne” and “Assisted Living” occupied the #1 and #2 spots for comedy series on cable for African Americans 18-49, 25-54 in the calendar year 2020.
As I binge-watched the show, in preparation for an interview with a cast member, Courtney Nicole who plays, Leah, I continued to anticipate each episode as each subject blended into the next show.
In Season Two of “Assisted Living,” Mr. Brown, Cora, and the gang open their Assisted Living facility, and a hilarious variety of personalities come to live in the home, bringing with them a ton of laughs and experiences. David Mann as “Mr. Brown,” Tamela Mann as “Cora,” J. Anthony Brown as “Vinny,” Na’im Lynn as “Jeremy,” Courtney Nichole as “Leah,” Alex Henderson as “Philip,” and Tayler Buck as “Sandra.”A mixture of funny characters brings non-stop laughter.
“Working with such comedians like J. Anthony Brown and David Mann makes it fun on the set, and they really bring to life their characters. Everyone is a comedian including, Alex,” said Courtney, as we video chatted about her career.
See next week’s edition for the full interview.

Now if you want to bust your gut, check out “The UpShaws” with Mike Epps, Wanda Sykes, and Kim Fields. You won’t stop laughing. Created by Regina Y. Hicks and Wanda Sykes who also executive produced alongside Mike Epps, Niles Kirchner, and Page Hurwitz, “The UpShaws” is a comedy series much like the type we used to see back in the day. It’s the story about a working-class Black family in Indiana striving for a better life and a happy home while juggling everyday struggles. The new series follows Bennie Upshaw (Epps), a charismatic car mechanic, and his blended family: his wife, Regina (Kim Fields); their young daughters and adult son; and the son he fathered outside his marriage. Sykes plays his sarcastic sister-in-law, Lucretia.
I was glad to see Mike in a sitcom and also see the return of Kim on the tube along with Wanda.
