Governor Shapiro hosts Ceremonial Bill Signing for theProperty Tax/Rent Rebate Expansion at Center in the Park

Reading Time: < 1 minute

PHILADELPHIA, PA, August 10, 2023 – Governor Josh Shapiro visited Center in the Park in Philadelphia, where he held a ceremonial bill signing for the Property Tax/Rent Rebate (PTRR) expansion to help seniors and Pennsylvanians with disabilities. Last week, Governor Shapiro signed the expansion into law, giving Pennsylvania seniors the largest targeted tax break in nearly two decades.
Governor Shapiro proposed the expansion of the PTRR program during his campaign and in his budget address to provide a lifeline for Pennsylvania renters and homeowners who need it most. As a result of this historic expansion – the first for the program since 2006 – nearly 175,000 more Pennsylvanians will qualify, and many of the 400,000 seniors who already qualify will see their rebates nearly double, with future increases to the income cap now being tied to inflation.
The deadline to apply for a rebate on 2022 taxes or rent is December 31, and residents can contact their state representative for help applying.
