Philadelphia Group launches Museum Project in Ghana

Philadelphia’s Asante Nkonim Kurom (ANK) is launching its Sankofa Museum Pavilion project at its annual Sankofa event on Saturday, August 12, 2023. The launch will be attended by various royals, elders, dignitaries, and most importantly, our African community. Festivities will include food, dancing, and fun and will be held at 612 W. 65th Avenue in Philadelphia,19126 (Rear) from 1 pm-5 pm. There is no admission fee. Space is limited.

ANK Philadelphia has commissioned the Sankofa Museum Pavilion to be built in Hwidiem, Ghana. Exhibits at the museum will trace the timeline from ancient African histories, traveling through the trans-Atlantic captivity and resulting disconnection in America, finally arriving at the triumphant return to traditional culture as a lifestyle and reconnection with African bloodline families.

“We envision a museum experience for visitors that is deeply historic; while also cutting edge and forward-looking; an experience that embodies the true spirit of Sankofa,“ says Nana Kofi Tuuda, Ohene (king) of the Asante Nkonim Kurom in North America. “The full reality is that we all were taken from families grounded in unique cultural expressions. Because of this, the “true” return will only come about when the returnees reidentify and embrace their African bloodlines (ethnic groupings), from which we were physically taken, but never ‘spiritually’ disconnected.”

Ghana’s 2019 “Year of Return” hosted hundreds of thousands of visitors from the African Diaspora. Many of these visitors were seeking a sense of reconnection with the culture and history lost during enslavement, which continues to be the missing link as we work toward true and full liberation.
