WASHINGTON — The National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) has donated $250,000 to Homecoming 250 Navy Marine Corps, a nonprofit organizing the 250th anniversary celebrations of the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps in Fall 2025.

DAR President General Pamela Wright announced the donation at the Opening Night Ceremony of the DAR’s annual convention, the 132nd Continental Congress, held at Constitution Hall on June 28, 2023, where she met with George Leone, President and Chair of Homecoming 250.

“As part of the ongoing efforts of the DAR to celebrate the upcoming Semiquincentennial of the independence of the United States, we are honored to support the efforts of Homecoming 250 Navy Marine Corps as it celebrates the founding and long-standing traditions of our great military institutions who were pivotal in our cause for independence,” said Wright.

“We are profoundly grateful for the support of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a historic women’s service organization that honors those who fought for our freedom,” said Leone. “The donation will help us plan the celebrations of the Navy and Marine Corps 250th birthdays in their birthplace in 2025. Our celebration will include an unprecedented gathering of historic and active Navy ships, events honoring the proud history of the Marine Corps, and exhibitions to interest all Americans, reminding us what unites us.”

The Navy and Marine Corps have begun planning with Homecoming 250 to celebrate their 250th birthdays in Philadelphia, PA, and Camden NJ, and to hold a Navy/Marine Week there in October 2023 as a dress rehearsal for the main event in 2025.

DAR has created a commemorative pin celebrating the Navy 250th anniversary that members and the public can purchase from the DAR Insignia Store. The DAR donation to the Homecoming 250 Navy Marine Corps was made possible through the DAR Insignia proceeds fund.
