The way I see it, it’s time to give kudos to every church group, every nonprofit, every civic organization, every Ward Leader, every business association, every grassroots group, and anyone else who thought it not robbery to take a little bit of time and host a candidates forum, a candidates debate, a candidate meet, and greet, or anything like that. I must include my colleagues in the media, mainstream media, and, of course, Black media, which equally hosted events so that voters could come and listen and learn and, in some cases, ask questions of the candidates themselves.
I, myself, have moderated nine candidates’ forums since mid-January of this year. I feel humbled that elected officials and or heads of nonprofits felt that I was qualified and able to handle introducing candidates to the public, in some cases questioning them myself, and in keeping the programs flowing, keeping watch over time, and a host of other things during these forums. I did not moderate any debates. I moderated forums. There is a difference, even though many people seem to not understand that.
That’s a subject for another day.
The bottom line is; time is flying quickly as we head to Tuesday, May 16, Primary Election Day in Pennsylvania. Essentially we have two weeks to go, and candidates are crisscrossing the city as they attempt to ensure votes for themselves.
