Minister Robin Shine Maddox, Founder of the Celebrating Sisterhood organization, helped to close out the month of November in a powerful way during her 3rd annual She Shines Conference, which took place Saturday, November 12, 2022, on the campus of New Covenant Church at 7500 Germantown Avenue in Philadelphia.
The conference was designed to bring women of color together for a full day of motivational speakers, resource information, workshops on finances and getting our houses in order, and some pampering too, with complimentary massages for any of the attendees who wanted one.
The theme this year was “It’s About Time,” and all the workshops featured had an “It’s About Time” twist to them. The opening address came from Emmy award-winning actress Sheryl Lee Ralph from the hit television sitcom “Abbott Elementary.” It was a virtual address, nonetheless encouraging and powerful. She said now is the time for women to take care of themselves, love on themselves and shine. Sheryl Lee Ralph was backed up by Dr. Argie
The She Shines Conference is Philadelphia’s premiere women’s conference designed for women of color who care about themselves, their families, and their communities. Minister Robin Shine, Founder of the nonprofit, Celebrating Sisterhood, the organization that sponsors the She Shines Conference, shared the purpose of this event. “The purpose of this conference is to mobilize, empower, engage, enrich, and inspire a collective network of women of color from various walks of life and diverse experiences. SHE SHINES as she embraces her culture while aspiring to live a thriving, God-inspired purposeful life in her home, workplace, houses of worship, and community. This is the conference where our sister-friends gather to be empowered, inspired, and SHINE! Our three-word purpose statement: Inspire, Hope, and Shine, motivates us to uplift and celebrate Sisterhood.
All of the workshops were designed to uplift and educate attendees. For example, Evelyn Gonzalez led a workshop entitled, It’s About Time to Know All the Facts About Cancer. Angelique Hinton, led a workshop entitled, It’s About Time to Leverage Your Vote.
Laverne Nichols led a workshop entitled It’s About Time to Talk with Our Young Women.
Veidre Jackson led a workshop entitled It’s About Time to Release and Move Forward.
Tracy Gordon, Philadelphia’s Registrar of Wills, talked about It’s Time to Get Your House In Order.
The workshops were wonderful.
