32nd Democratic Ward–new leadership, new direction Ward distributes Thanksgiving baskets to families

PHILADELPHIA, Nov. 26, 2021 – Twenty-three families in the 32nd Ward were blessed with turkeys and all the fixings for a complete Thanksgiving dinner thanks to Darnell Deans, Sr., the new leader of the 32nd Democratic Ward. Deans and his brother, Eric Streeter, spent two days shopping and delivering turkeys and fixing baskets to families in the Ward well into the evening. The Ward purchased the food for distribution.
Deans said many families are still trying to recover from the negative economic effects of the pandemic, and he wanted to do something to help. “I knew that the 32nd Ward had families within the Ward that could use a Thanksgiving basket, so we just blessed them with turkeys and baskets with everything you need for a nice dinner, including rolls and sweet potato pie. A special thank you to my little brother Eric for all his hard work and for the two days he gave of his time.”
Deans accepted the ward leader position when longtime 32nd Democratic Ward Leader Gary Williams recently resigned. A committeeperson for 16 years, Deans served as ward chair for the last four years and stepped up while Williams dealt with health issues. Earlier this year he organized a violence prevention rally/community discussion at Martin Luther King, Jr. Recreation Center to discuss the quality of life in North Central Philadelphia, the strategies needed to improve it, provide information on resources, and distribute back-to-school supplies. In his new role as ward leader, Deans will continue to serve North Central Philadelphia communities by increasing focus on strengthening and empowering its families and promoting the importance of voting.
