Tyquan Atkinson, a young man just 22 years old who sat on State Road in a Philadelphia prison for three years (he was 19 when he was arrested), is now back home with his mother and family, where he belongs. What a story he has to tell. Tyquan is a low-key young man, as described by family members and friends, who has never before been in trouble with the law in his entire life. He would absolutely be described as a “good kid.”
So how the heck did he end up in the middle of a murder trial as the chief suspect? Was it simply a few Philadelphia Police Officers grabbing at straws to get somebody, anybody arrested and sent to prison for the murder of a fellow police officer’s son?
A jury found Tyquan Atkinson, 22, not guilty of all charges related to the fatal shooting of Nicholas Flacco at FDR Park in South Philly in March 2019.
Flacco, a 20-year-old Penn State student and son of a Philadelphia police commander, was shot while tailgating after a Phillies game.
A Common Pleas Court jury on April 6, 2022, finally found Tyquan Atkinson not guilty of murder, criminal conspiracy, and related gun charges in connection with the shooting of Nicholas Flacco in March 2019. Nicholas Flacco was a Penn State student home on a college break when he was murdered. Flacco had been in the park tailgating after a Phillies game, and there had been confrontations among groups of people before he was killed.
